Etymologically, the name comes from the Latin Sancta Diana, the Roman goddess of the hunt and moon, also celebrated in Roman Dacia (ancient Romania).[citation needed] Diana was known to be the virgin goddess and looked after virgins and women. She was one of the three maiden goddesses, Diana, Minerva and Vesta, who swore never to marry.<p></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p>Sânziene (Lady's Bedstraw flowers)</p><p>People in the western Carpathian Mountains celebrate the Sânziene holiday annually, on June 24. This is similar to the Swedish Midsummer holiday, and is believed to be a pagan celebration of the summer solstice in June. According to the official position of the Romanian Orthodox Church, the customs actually relate to the celebration of Saint John the Baptist's Nativity, which also happens on June 24.</p><p><br /></p><p>Sânziene rituals</p><p>The folk practices of Sânziene imply that the most beautiful maidens in the village dress in white and spend all day searching for and picking flowers, of which one MUST be Galium verum (Lady's bedstraw or Yellow bedstraw) which in Romanian is also named "Sânziànă". Using the flowers they picked during the day, the girls braid floral crowns which they wear upon returning to the village at nightfall. There they meet with their beloved and they dance around a bonfire. The crowns are thrown over the houses, and whenever the crown falls, it is said that someone will die in that house; if the crown stays on the roof of the house, then good harvest and wealth will be bestowed upon the owners. As with other bonfire celebrations, jumping over the embers after the bonfire is not raging anymore is done to purify the person and also to bring health.</p><p><br /></p><p>Another folk belief is that during the Sânziene Eve night, the heavens open up, making it the strongest night for magic spells, especially for the love spells. Also it is said that the plants harvested during this night will have tremendous magical powers.</p><p><br /></p><p>It is not a good thing though to be a male and walk at night during Sanziene Eve night, as that is the time when the fairies dance in the air, blessing the crops and bestowing health on people - they do not like to be seen by males, and whomever sees them will be maimed, or the fairies will take their hearing/speech or make them mad.</p><p><br /></p><p>In some areas of the Carpathians, the villagers then light a big wheel of hay from the ceremonial bonfire and push it down a hill. This has been interpreted as a symbol for the setting sun (from the solstice to come and until the midwinter solstice, the days will be getting shorter).</p>Norana Adinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17495352641355272328noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4619729398672178699.post-27701299069817552762021-06-23T13:47:00.010-07:002023-03-06T00:09:10.148-08:00Adventure In Tinutul Padurenilor<p><span style="font-size: 16pt;">Adventure In Tinutul Padurenilor</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqgp7krydJD_xERbKWfXNwv13Bbe23hAf2_EHH59saoz0KoOv-LNm88sKMxy5dbyEWPXQSFr9mh8stmqM6Z51nMCp7RgI3uAs1sydEaS0UT5WYQysOylS6mzA4C62FYIlYbEmzPcvRsxhN/s320/20160904_092526.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="240" data-original-width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqgp7krydJD_xERbKWfXNwv13Bbe23hAf2_EHH59saoz0KoOv-LNm88sKMxy5dbyEWPXQSFr9mh8stmqM6Z51nMCp7RgI3uAs1sydEaS0UT5WYQysOylS6mzA4C62FYIlYbEmzPcvRsxhN/s0/20160904_092526.jpg" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-size: 16pt;"><br /></span><p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">As we are
already used to, our starting point is the Tourist Information Centre in
Ghelari, from where we leave to visit the picturesque villages of Pădurenime.
Prepared with everything, with the bag full of food, we follow the road,
having as first viewpoint the Observatory from Măstăcaneț, next to the Panorama
pension. For a few minutes we can stop to admire the landscapes and immortalize
them in photos, but to keep alive the memory of these landscapes in our souls.
From there we head to the villages on the tops of the hills.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYohznf_lJ5dPD7GNgvNoztMP6TjjAVZBUl5ajIrvgnD7b28N_O1a1mAydCcXx1tEUX-QWUs3nisnwnplKqfMndabQofF5tKljEhjRNSg5mNMpU0IOPhyphenhyphenWMlGdn3uE3_NheoS4XSAsj80Y/s320/20160904_093004.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="240" data-original-width="320" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYohznf_lJ5dPD7GNgvNoztMP6TjjAVZBUl5ajIrvgnD7b28N_O1a1mAydCcXx1tEUX-QWUs3nisnwnplKqfMndabQofF5tKljEhjRNSg5mNMpU0IOPhyphenhyphenWMlGdn3uE3_NheoS4XSAsj80Y/w400-h300/20160904_093004.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0rtaAbAX5e1O0eHeua6WDXqdCSURo12asm7OXIRiIYFAdCmhM0rEVN1IP7x-M3HX96ww0PPbz-dLLus5WsMJCBV9K9o5GcO6PyqHTapGxcUha7EGDBdsTnBa0JJPlKmZ9OLxhiYSnuNDl/s320/DSC_0966.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="213" data-original-width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0rtaAbAX5e1O0eHeua6WDXqdCSURo12asm7OXIRiIYFAdCmhM0rEVN1IP7x-M3HX96ww0PPbz-dLLus5WsMJCBV9K9o5GcO6PyqHTapGxcUha7EGDBdsTnBa0JJPlKmZ9OLxhiYSnuNDl/s16000/DSC_0966.JPG" /></a></div><br /><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;"><br /></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">The village
of Ruda, then the Cornet hill offers us the opportunity to stop to admire the
wonderful views, but also to remember the times when this hill was populated
with hundreds of people. How beautiful it used to be when the Dragan Munteanu
Festival resonated in all the villages from Pădurenime and beyond. Passing
through Poienița Voinii, we continue our way to Bunila, then further, until we
stop at the second large viewpoint, namely, the Muncelu plateau, located at
1200m altitude. From now on we can say that the adventure really begins.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">Arming
ourselves with a lot of patience, our ascent to one of the most isolated and
high points in Ținutul Pădurenilor begins, namely, Vadu Dobrii. Well, access to
this village is quite difficult, requiring little experience, but having an
off-road vehicle or an ATV, all these problems will be solved. Once in Vadu
Dobrii, there we will have some surprises. The history with which this village
greets us, with its stories about people and people, the Military Unit, and,
more recently, one of the attractions of this village is Dan Sabau's household. He is the man of the woods, along with his
6 Husky puppies. Let's not forget the fact that from Vadu Dobrii we can enjoy
the spectacular landscapes, having in the foreground Padeş Peak and Vf. Rusca
at over 1300m.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnjk31HKbkV65ggzFllzB4KRbePoLHwzvhDTXBb2y4NlHHt-IFIPyqAfl7ohyphenhyphenNs1ScK63OUG5qciYsM3zjP6tdG2XahPjNik41sv8sZ4V9I-oNfrkHhRxyd9rdXwi5CVN92rjCo7wUexad/s320/DSC_0110.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="213" data-original-width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnjk31HKbkV65ggzFllzB4KRbePoLHwzvhDTXBb2y4NlHHt-IFIPyqAfl7ohyphenhyphenNs1ScK63OUG5qciYsM3zjP6tdG2XahPjNik41sv8sZ4V9I-oNfrkHhRxyd9rdXwi5CVN92rjCo7wUexad/s16000/DSC_0110.JPG" /></a></div><br /><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;"><br /></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">After a day
full of adventure, the time to return home is approaching. The way back is made
on DJ687D on the Bâlea valley with spectacular landscapes passing through the villages of
Hăşdau, Dăbâca, Toplița. From here, the traveler can have two options. Either
he goes to Cinciș Lake, with its stories and legends, to later reach Hunedoara,
or climbing to Dealu Mic, to Transilvaniei Street, reaching Ghelari again after
a day full of beauty and adventure in Pădurenime.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;"><br /></p>Norana Adinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17495352641355272328noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4619729398672178699.post-47323914125996433632021-06-16T13:00:00.003-07:002021-06-16T14:26:07.716-07:00Echumenic Tourist Route<p> </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-9hKw5kR_Q8XmH_oZoR3Ii3Ew-oopUFw8vgRXF2BsJT_ajCj3ydVXoRh1lZx09kuy7vdLh5grH_eQHAfttDnBLk3v3zOXyI8qhj5Tnj7WaWFRZYsZdiFywAMdKY6kJW17cjgPOluuwoGe/s400/DSC_0290.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="266" data-original-width="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-9hKw5kR_Q8XmH_oZoR3Ii3Ew-oopUFw8vgRXF2BsJT_ajCj3ydVXoRh1lZx09kuy7vdLh5grH_eQHAfttDnBLk3v3zOXyI8qhj5Tnj7WaWFRZYsZdiFywAMdKY6kJW17cjgPOluuwoGe/s320/DSC_0290.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><span face="Calibri, sans-serif" style="font-size: 11pt; white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span face="Calibri, sans-serif" style="font-size: 11pt; white-space: pre-wrap;">Today we present, virtually, the path of a traveller which can connect in a certain way with the Divinity. The view of the mountains that can be seen in the distance, but also the green colour of nature and the charge of the soul with positive energy.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.2; margin-bottom: 10pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Heading towards new places, we pass through the village of Ruda, then continue to the Cornet hill, where the famous "Dragan Munteanu" Festival - Foresters Festival takes place. Next is the visit of Poienita Voinii village, the native village of the great rhapsodist Dragan Muntenu, where at the entrance of the village, on the right, on top of a small hill, there is a small wooden church. Right on the main street, near the school, we have the house-museum of the same performer, where we find elements of foresters traditional outfit/costume, but also elements of a traditional house in the area. The locals, regardless of the time, are eager to talk to tourists, taking pride in the stories of the village. Unfortunately, the village is very sparsely populated, with mostly only elderly people.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.2; margin-bottom: 10pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">We are fast approaching the main place of this incursion. From Poienita Voinii on the right side down the road, we take the marble road. The landscape, again, takes the traveller's breath. Arriving at the entrance of the village of Alun, on the left side, we come to the famous marble quarry which has a special history. The People's House in Bucharest, the second largest building in Europe, was also built with marble from this quarry. This marble was also used to make parts of the Ceausescu house, also in Bucharest, but also several churches / cathedrals near the place, Foresters Cathedral, or some from the nearest cities. The 2km marble road, but also the church from the same material are another two important aspects of this village. The marble church is unique in the world, being made only of marble. The architecture of the village, the meeting with the picturesque symbols and the traditions of this village, give a feeling of belonging to the identity of foresters and Romanians. Unfortunately, the locals left for the city life, and only one person lives there. For the rest of the houses, the owners come only on holidays, feeling the need for peace, tired of the hustle and bustle of the city. The wooden church, another tourist attraction in this small forest village, dates back several hundred years, approximately from the 1700s.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.2; margin-bottom: 10pt; margin-top: 0pt;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQn9OzFg391qbSH8Fujt6L9lIBtVpCnQKokR7vzr0hETA2nBHxev-gh5ucE_k4hj6EC06mPYgBwTnpnHIVqLPG0yeEi857Kxh_GO_5lS0__yzk5tXpSkNk9b7ImrQM9rqQ-bzuW2vYk_rg/s320/Alun+%25282%2529.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQn9OzFg391qbSH8Fujt6L9lIBtVpCnQKokR7vzr0hETA2nBHxev-gh5ucE_k4hj6EC06mPYgBwTnpnHIVqLPG0yeEi857Kxh_GO_5lS0__yzk5tXpSkNk9b7ImrQM9rqQ-bzuW2vYk_rg/s0/Alun+%25282%2529.jpeg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-Qqhn-MtSQK2mT2mlTQk7ODaXL-wiTZ3FI1d8-3XjoP5nokxkyxx86zWUQa-4Q7nDgqECDyfZLbaNZoGTrhpBnskweqt-5gciQQN0nWndR5cwzhl4ycui15tI7CcRKxfOkd-nu4xDWmY_/s320/Alun+%25283%2529.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="240" data-original-width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-Qqhn-MtSQK2mT2mlTQk7ODaXL-wiTZ3FI1d8-3XjoP5nokxkyxx86zWUQa-4Q7nDgqECDyfZLbaNZoGTrhpBnskweqt-5gciQQN0nWndR5cwzhl4ycui15tI7CcRKxfOkd-nu4xDWmY_/s0/Alun+%25283%2529.jpeg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjbcf2rjPOa0Celx-B8HdKLsHeo8qoGImcWqsdz82MsUFEvsZMbTy3DHWjUaiD8abG3DqR0JZTZip66Ua0442cA8FMntE-yqo5Ugau1F5g0ntE-_xpL6dNTm_qThHqC7Ey5L2vLmIISTRL/s320/Alun+%25284%2529.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjbcf2rjPOa0Celx-B8HdKLsHeo8qoGImcWqsdz82MsUFEvsZMbTy3DHWjUaiD8abG3DqR0JZTZip66Ua0442cA8FMntE-yqo5Ugau1F5g0ntE-_xpL6dNTm_qThHqC7Ey5L2vLmIISTRL/s0/Alun+%25284%2529.jpeg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioNXSFPOuSf020dFjCV_sqEGs1dLK6h-GTIjlurhQul0g9jFMlzltRHJY9-FM4IjpVzXHpXO8T5P1k3Xn5j5Tw_eMqAZWGVTgZRi1t4uJIV3ToF_C7VLrlsfbw-FsexQKNTWAdjwRfAE46/s320/Alun+%25289%2529.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="240" data-original-width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioNXSFPOuSf020dFjCV_sqEGs1dLK6h-GTIjlurhQul0g9jFMlzltRHJY9-FM4IjpVzXHpXO8T5P1k3Xn5j5Tw_eMqAZWGVTgZRi1t4uJIV3ToF_C7VLrlsfbw-FsexQKNTWAdjwRfAE46/s0/Alun+%25289%2529.jpeg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWIgO-lRyrVXLXNHV-ChcMAeC21NMQv_yQi_HBVaOt66UdKUGyGpeL7pf3uwNyzv_YD1ONS2kOINV8l5pBfVPrA73REBeSyZ19kGGUFwZXPTPF7T52r0xFnkMfyiIwmpN-tf0FZvSEDjld/s320/Alun+%252812%2529.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="240" data-original-width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWIgO-lRyrVXLXNHV-ChcMAeC21NMQv_yQi_HBVaOt66UdKUGyGpeL7pf3uwNyzv_YD1ONS2kOINV8l5pBfVPrA73REBeSyZ19kGGUFwZXPTPF7T52r0xFnkMfyiIwmpN-tf0FZvSEDjld/s0/Alun+%252812%2529.jpeg" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /></span><p></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.2; margin-bottom: 10pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Ready for ending the day and this beautiful walk, the tourist loaded with history resumes the road partially paved of marble Alun-Govajdie road to the intersection in Nadrab area, where you can choose Hunedoara way (DC110B) as your final destination, or, climbing to Ghelari road, Ratisoarei valley.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.2; margin-bottom: 10pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">This route, of marble, is a route of medium difficulty and can be a favourable route for bicycles, ATVs, cars, but also on foot. of some tourist routes in Tinutul Padurenilor. If in the previous article we
were on the iron road, together with the faithful miners, today we will travel
the road that people from the forest villages used to travel daily to reach
the mines from Ghelari. We invite you to be with us today.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0cm;">Today's route also starts from the Tourist Information Center from
Ghelari, from where, the traveller goes to the Cut neighborhood,
reaching the Reformed Church, with the sports club next to it. The next stop will be at
the Mastacanet Observatory, where you have a breathtaking view. The greatness
of the mountains, of the valleys, but also of the neighboring villages can be
observed from there. Immediately, across the road from this observatory is one
of the 3 guesthouses of Ghelari village. Panorama Pension, as the name
suggests, offers the same wonderful landscapes. It is a quiet corner, with
welcoming people. You will find more details at the hosts
of this pension.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0cm;">We continue the road to the village of
Ruda, with nice people ready to tell the tourists some old stories about the beautiful land. A path that descends
into the depths of the forest on the left is visible. The
miners from the valley villages came to the mine on this path every single day. Descending through the dark forest, we reach
the village of Valari.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0cm;">In this small village, people will find more surprises. We can
distinguish in our way the former bocce arrangements, where the charcoal for
the furnace from Toplita was made, then we can stop for a while at the wooden
church from Valari village, more than 200 years old (1800).</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeRz716Gz4c9v52it_aX0i_knQ7m2bwEeqTfpN1ELw6o2G9El_9INWhhlrzJ6ZTScVGWUhqkWuFRTKt1FJ22NSLC0ey3PASOJtmFI50GhMJRVbuuT8xL0eKHRxtWQ1Dqg8Jpz2Iz83H8nM/s320/250px-Valari.latura_nordic.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeRz716Gz4c9v52it_aX0i_knQ7m2bwEeqTfpN1ELw6o2G9El_9INWhhlrzJ6ZTScVGWUhqkWuFRTKt1FJ22NSLC0ey3PASOJtmFI50GhMJRVbuuT8xL0eKHRxtWQ1Dqg8Jpz2Iz83H8nM/s0/250px-Valari.latura_nordic.jpg" /></a></div><br /><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0cm;"><br /></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0cm;">There is a family of young people where you can feel "Foresters for a few
hours, a day, or more". You can learn, but also relax a lot around them.
They are special hosts. Saying goodbye to them, we head to the village of
Toplita, on DJ687D, where we can visit the remains of the site of the former
Furnal from 1700. What can we say, the forest villages have a significant
history behind and hundreds of years old.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1Z1WO-t0eY4YCZ3fz6bbrR98qAmKsrzGdhnASYRfWth791D7Rkd75Md7j0kpRB4wylUzrGynD1nz9x7YyTxw1-KoHSuJ3KPve-4x4ldWfvFLoNcw-MRNdmu2hcxTbyxZPhWADjeIayiuP/s512/142198007_1041839169669233_6524866774774688651_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="512" data-original-width="383" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1Z1WO-t0eY4YCZ3fz6bbrR98qAmKsrzGdhnASYRfWth791D7Rkd75Md7j0kpRB4wylUzrGynD1nz9x7YyTxw1-KoHSuJ3KPve-4x4ldWfvFLoNcw-MRNdmu2hcxTbyxZPhWADjeIayiuP/s320/142198007_1041839169669233_6524866774774688651_n.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRldt4X4jbrqBXbW-V2EW4hQonno8XA5L6gKv9oDsKs1gpQRP_TGKw37PbOn7ziHW4RFZEpRMIauVYpuCkE_KNI48PKu10YQSszbi1MdDhMwzUFyS92PJWlLTopiAfehx67qaK4MyQIQYa/s512/142422764_3627168954004138_3603733638584709813_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="248" data-original-width="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRldt4X4jbrqBXbW-V2EW4hQonno8XA5L6gKv9oDsKs1gpQRP_TGKw37PbOn7ziHW4RFZEpRMIauVYpuCkE_KNI48PKu10YQSszbi1MdDhMwzUFyS92PJWlLTopiAfehx67qaK4MyQIQYa/s320/142422764_3627168954004138_3603733638584709813_o.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0cm;"><br /></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
From Toplita, we take quick steps towards Ghelari. We follow the path that climbs through the dense forest to Transylvania

difficult to climb the hill, just like anything, we have to rest. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0cm;"><o:p> </o:p>The route is one of medium difficulty, with a distance of about 15km,
which can be done in 6 hours. It depends on each person who sets off on this
route, each according to his liking and at his own pace. The tranquility and the whistling of the forest can make this hike one
of the wonderful experiences.</p>

In the hope that you will soon have the courage to start looking for this trail, we invite you on this wonderful journey.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 10pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span face="Calibri, sans-serif" style="font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">As a starting point we can have the Tourist Information Centre in Ghelari. From there, start on Rusca Street, towards the Cuț neighborhood, where you will discover a place where you can see part of Ghelari village , but also the hills, mountains and towns near the village. The viewpoint is a wonderful one, especially since you can see the imposing Cathedral of the Foresters. At the first left on the road, take the road down Minei Street, to the base, where you will discover what is left of the old Central Mine. There you will be able to look down on the "Lucaci Quarry", having a feeling perhaps many times more insignificant than that of the miners who used to go down into the depths. There, we are on the surface, but the greatness of the rocks and the accumulation of feelings and stories of the place can produce sparks in everyone's soul. We will then follow the markings to the Valley of Houses - the site of the furnaces.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 10pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span face="Calibri, sans-serif" style="font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">A place to stop on the way to the traveler, where you can catch your breath for a while as the foresters like to say. Rest is essential, just as miners had to be rested. From there, the wandering traveler resumes the iron road, climbing Valea Caselor Street, preparing to finish his tour of the mine, and will stop to thank the Divinity for another day of work. Approaching the Orthodox Cathedral of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, it stops for several tens of minutes to admire the wonder of an imposing cathedral, but also to find out things unknown about it in the museum inside the parish complex.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 10pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span face="Calibri, sans-serif" style="font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The traveler, from here, after a journey of about 5 hours, prepares to reach the parking lot of the Tourist Information Centre, but not before making a stop at the Greek Catholic Church on Trandafirilor Street. From the Pădurenilor cathedral our traveller follows Rusca street to the centre of the village, where on the top right you can see the church with great significance for miners. This is under the protection of St. Varvara, the protector of the miners. From there to the Tourist Centre it's not long, just a few minutes.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 10pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span face="Calibri, sans-serif" style="font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Loaded with a lot of information, history, joy in the souls and the burning desire to learn more about this wonderful land, the traveller thanks the Divinity for a beautiful day, thinking about the future, but also the past. Hard-working people, miners, have sacrificed years of their lives for a better life. Working in the mine is always hard and they must be respected and honoured for the sacrifices they made.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 10pt; margin-top: 0pt;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5qKd9a2bhECqsF0L6O6HFJbxR4hYzi-CVeq9qxiTK8UGtgf36WjWDHDgmjliG8lgm1CL76iLYpHUSXdkwz1gpVoqSxfjoKT8u9sUl68obec6WWrV-Um_nZfWT3AzJcB2ZERXmFPeFpWSB/s320/DSC01063.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="213" data-original-width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5qKd9a2bhECqsF0L6O6HFJbxR4hYzi-CVeq9qxiTK8UGtgf36WjWDHDgmjliG8lgm1CL76iLYpHUSXdkwz1gpVoqSxfjoKT8u9sUl68obec6WWrV-Um_nZfWT3AzJcB2ZERXmFPeFpWSB/s0/DSC01063.JPG" /></a></div><br /><span face="Calibri, sans-serif" style="font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /></span><p></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 10pt; margin-top: 0pt;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzNEJkIxrDxKJMjkkbVU4Pphktlaj7nHyvqqJMbd4zqIdSCH_5vLigFEg1eqyprFCgrt3RD3n7dGN3TIXDrlkcUOFjeDfPmNAbLfxMkX8uoxZxvhhWbEMSS9CmDePW98uyW2Lbab-3uykL/s320/DSC01044.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="213" data-original-width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzNEJkIxrDxKJMjkkbVU4Pphktlaj7nHyvqqJMbd4zqIdSCH_5vLigFEg1eqyprFCgrt3RD3n7dGN3TIXDrlkcUOFjeDfPmNAbLfxMkX8uoxZxvhhWbEMSS9CmDePW98uyW2Lbab-3uykL/s0/DSC01044.JPG" /></a></div><br /><span face="Calibri, sans-serif" style="font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /></span><p></p><br /><br />Norana Adinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17495352641355272328noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4619729398672178699.post-76646196570843708682021-05-19T14:46:00.002-07:002021-05-19T15:19:59.606-07:00Foresters' Cheese Pie<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1jhsfa3xmgdb1K1ET4PPat8YbwnzbcBFMGqdON5583Ib1o_WKRSW-rxG1HMrvgboBzxjChYotT-a-WpOBc09DAricTuNHBX3oYsnytHKbsJfvBpB-xHypPKmKkp0JPijMbwTMCtw_jCB5/s600/FB_IMG_1621462687486.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1jhsfa3xmgdb1K1ET4PPat8YbwnzbcBFMGqdON5583Ib1o_WKRSW-rxG1HMrvgboBzxjChYotT-a-WpOBc09DAricTuNHBX3oYsnytHKbsJfvBpB-xHypPKmKkp0JPijMbwTMCtw_jCB5/s320/FB_IMG_1621462687486.jpg" /></a></div><br />Foresters' Cheese Pie<p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">The forest pies are certainly the
most representative for Tinutul Padurenilor and the foresters prepare them for
special community events or when they receive guests from other lands. Dragan
Muntean, when talking about the Foresters' Festival, always mentioned that the
guests were greeted with foresters pies. Even today, the local events serve the
guests with this loved pies by everyone..</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">The foresters pies with cheese
was included in the collection CULINARY ART of Romania (volume 2) and also from
2019 they have a Festival of Foresters Pies that takes place in Poiana Poiana
Răchițelii, Cerbăl. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">Ingredients:</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">1 kg of flour</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">1/2 teaspoon sugar</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">1 teaspoon salt</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">375 ml of water</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">Scrob (filling):</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">300 g kneaded sheep cheese </p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">300 g of sweet cow's milk cheese</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">1 tablespoon cornmeal.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">200 g sour cream (preferably
homemade or as thick as possible)</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">3-4 eggs</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">Optional (chopped dill)</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">Flour for preparing the pies and
sunflower oil to heat the pan</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">METHOD OF PREPARATION</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">Prepare the dough with the above
ingredients and knead until it comes off the kneading bowl but still sticky.
You can also use a robot as for any dough speed 1-3. When it comes off the
edges of the pot, easily cover it with flour and a cloth or leaven and leave it
to rise for about 15 minutes.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">While we wait for the dough to
rise, we prepare the filling, mixing all the ingredients so that it becomes a
not very flowing paste.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">Spread the dough in a round shape
of 26 cm and very thin then fold into 3 and cut the ends so that after
unfolding to form a hexagon. Then we place it on a round bottom. Put 2-3
tablespoons of starch (the filling composition) in the middle, then spread it
carefully until the first notches, then roll it out, gently pulling the rays in
pairs and then bring it to the centre of the pie.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">After it is folded, we put it on
a slab or on a frying pan (preferably made of cast iron), well heated. Grease
the pan with a little oil. It should be left to brown lightly on both sides.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">They are tastier if served fresh
hot.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">Bon appetite!</p>Norana Adinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17495352641355272328noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4619729398672178699.post-47774894731888583612021-05-12T12:44:00.001-07:002021-05-12T12:53:42.234-07:00Doughnouts in a pan/ "Pupi" with a spoon<p> </p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">Doughnouts in a pan/ "Pupi

<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">With God's help, we have reached
these days of great importance! The day of the resurrection, the day the world
was reborn. Easter is the feast of the Resurrection of Christ, it is the moment
of man's passing from death to life. Christians celebrate Easter in remembrance
of salvation from the bondage of sin and death.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">The foresters, like the other
Christians, consider Easter the most important Christian holiday because on
this day Jesus Christ rose. The holy and sacred character of this day is given,
first of all, by the specific formula of the greeting: "Christ is
risen!" and the answer, “He is risen indeed!” Also, people from Padurenime
call the pieces of bread soaked in wine - "Pasti", resulting from
cutting the Easter bread, after being put in the church on Holy Thursday. This
mixture is received by every villager on the night of the Resurrection or
waited for it on the morning of Easter with a cup in which the mix will be
placed. Usually, every year it is the turn of a family from the community to put
the Pasti, as they say, these being called "Pasteri". The respective
family or families contribute to the order of the church for a year long.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">In the past, two or three men
chosen from the "pasteri", stayed in front of the altar doors, each
carrying under his left arm an Easter pot, bread soaked in wine, and in his
right hand a spoon with which they take Easter from that pot and offer it to
everyone in the church. Those who enjoy a special prestige in the village are
invited to serve themselves. Every man, young or old, receives at least three
tablespoons of Easter. Whoever offers says, "Christ is risen!" And
the recipient answers: "Truly he is risen!" After receiving the Pasti,
the mentioned formulas are repeated three times in a row. It is perhaps the most
emotional and sacred religious moment of the Easter celebration. People are
quietly waiting for this ritual to take place, this moment with a high degree
of sacredness. The new clothes in which each person shows up at church, the red
eggs, the incessant ringing of the bells create festive moments that have no
equivalent in any other religious holiday of the year.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">Only those who are sick, in bed,
or on the road do not come to church on this day. For them, Easter bread and wine are sent home
in a glass or jug, vessels brought especially by a woman from the family of the
absent. Today, little of the tradition of this day is preserved. On Easter day
after the service, the women gave alms from their dishes cooked with love at
home to those in need. The villagers who came to church for Easter took great
care to be very clean and well dressed. In the villages in the valley, with
running water, some families who had their house near the water, urged their
children to bathe, although the water was very cold, with the belief that
bathing today has a purifying role, driving away diseases, more especially the
bugs that were often made on children.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">But the biggest concern for
clothing was the older girls. "At Easter, the girls had to have a new
cloth shirt to make hemp next summer." Thus, some girls, helped by their
mother, worked on the preparation of the costume even on the night of the
Resurrection: "My daughter worked all night, until Easter morning, to put
on her new shirt."</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">In fact, in the past, in Tinutul Padurenilor, the
Resurrection service was held very rarely, once every six, seven years, or even
less often, because the priest still had about six, seven villages in the
parish. So, this job was done by rotation, each village having its turn after a
certain number of years.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">A custom from Tinutul Padurenilor,
from the elders, on the night of the Resurrection, the boys set fire to the
cemetery. The custom was maintained until a few years ago in the village of
Lelese. "The boys gathered in the village, as many as there were, until
the age of leaving for the army, each brought a piece of wood, a drum, and set
fire to the cemetery. The fire had to burn all night, it was not allowed to go
out in the cemetery or at home, as on Christmas night, so that nothing bad
would happen in the house. ”But the boys were looking forward to Easter to they
went up to the church tower, where they rang the bells and rang the bell,
"so that they may do well all year round." And the girls were allowed
to climb the tower on this day.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">After everyone "took"
Easter bread and wine, after the bells were rung by those who wanted and had the necessary
strength, after the red eggs, painted in onion peel, collided, they returned
home, where they participated, with the whole family, in the festive meal. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>At this meal the weight of the dishes was red
eggs and dairy products. In the middle of the table was the pastry, a ritual
bread, specially made, decorated with braids also made of dough, having on top,
right in the middle, a red egg that was also baked with the dough.
Interestingly, until the interwar period most the foresters did not cut the
Easter lamb.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">After the festive meal, all the
villagers, but especially the young people, gathered in a certain place in the
village which was to be as smooth as possible. Here, various sports games were
played, first of all, but often the most insightful winner came out. The boys
played Ţurca (game similar to oina) and Porcul (game similar to golf) and the
girls Piul. Also for this day, the tutu or hinte (swing, seesaw) was arranged
and the boys and girls were given (swayed) in them. The other villagers
attended these competitions and had fun. The dance was not performed on Easter
Sunday: it was considered that the one who would dare to play on this holy day
would commit a great sin. Instead, it was played over the next two days: Monday
and Tuesday. Younger boys and girls aged 12-13 were looking forward to these
days, as they were now entering the game for the first time.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">Many of the traditional customs
have changed lately; only the old women go to church dressed in the traditional
dress, everyone else dresses according to the urban fashion. After ringing the
bells, the boys now gather at the football field, improvised, of course, two
teams are formed and they play football. The girls play volleyball or watch the
boys play, walk in groups or sit at home watching TV. The Easter meal has
become very consistent: in every household lamb is cut, some even cut calf. The
share in this meal now has meat prepared in different forms: stew, soup, stew,
steak, etc.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">The first Sunday after Easter is
called for the foresters: Little Easter (Tomii Sunday). The difference from
other Sundays is that "eggs are reddened again for this day", and
people continue to use the Easter greeting: "Christ is risen!",
"Truly he is risen!".</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">Let us thank God that we have
become healthy on this beautiful day and may the Easter holidays give us the
peace of mind we need spiritually. Let us enjoy this holiday in the heart of
the family and let us pray to the Lord to help us at every step! God help!</p>

of Lent, known as Holy Week. Each day of this week has a special connotation.
If in the interval Monday-Wednesday they are performed in the church
"Deniile Mari", starting with Holy Thursday, the importance of the
services and their significance is much greater. But let's find out, one by
one, the meaning of each of the last mentioned days, starting with Thursday.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; text-align: justify;">In Tinutul Padurenilor, as in the
other areas of the country, Holy Thursday has an enormous significance.
Starting with the morning of the day, when the priest and other people go to
the house of the "pasteri", a family from the village who decided to
put the "Pasti" in that year .. There is a service held in their
house. Next, all the people leave with the procession to the church. Several
groups of 2 people are formed who will take bread and wine in special baskets,
in order for those, for sanctification during the Liturgy that will be
celebrated. Once at the church, the service begins with the process of
sanctifying Easter bread and wine. At the end of this mass everyone is invited
to an Easter alms, in memory of those who passed away from the
"Pasteri" family.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; text-align: justify;">Later, on that day, another
important service is held, named the service of the 12 Gospels, or also known as
"Denia of Holy Friday". This special service is performed on Thursday
after dusk and sums up all the feelings and events that happened to the Our
Savior, Iisus Hristos, in that week. Besides all these religious aspects of
this day, it has other meanings among the Foresters. Some mythical if we can
say so. I made you curious, didn't I? Let's find out more about this day.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; text-align: justify;">As I told you, besides the
religious importance, Holy Thursday also has popular meanings. In the evening
of this day, in the villages from Tinutul Padurenilor, "Alii molii"
was shouted, also called the shout over the village. Due to the relief from
Tinutul Padurenilor, the alternation of hill-valley, made possible the shouting
over the village, not only within the village, but also the shouting between 2
villages. "The most concise and complete characterization of the meaning
of the cry over the village I remembered from Oprinesc Domnica (b. 1911) from
Socet: "people are shouting <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>"alii molii" for the morons, for the
cute ones, for the women who don't work ".</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; text-align: justify;">Here is the ritual of this
evening in Padurenime: "On the evening of Thursday, before Easter, after a
preliminary agreement, in which they determined who to be mocked, some boys
climbed to the edge of a hill and others to another edge, At a great distance,
but still to be heard in the village, each group carried to the top of the hill

<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; text-align: justify;">Regarding this strange expression
"ali molii", which differ from village to village, we are inclined to
believe that it has its origin in the name of the day. Starting from the words
of Stăncoane Gheorghe from Runcu Mare, who said that “on Easter Thursday Joile
Mari was shouted” or as Bistrian Hermina (b. 1922) from Dăbâca remembered, “"Joile
Mari" was shouted a long time ago when Easter was consecrated”, we
consider that, in an incipient form of shouting over the village, the
expression at the beginning of the dialogue was "Joile Mari, Joile
Mari!". It was a statement that was allowed to be said on that Thursday,
considered great, being the one before Easter and only then. In the tendency to
simplify the expression, in order to be pronounced as easily as possible, but
shouted as loud as possible, over time, the formula "Joile Mari", the
local and archaic form of the demonstrative pronoun of distance
"those" , which replaced in the shout the noun "joile",
consisting of five sounds, reaching the phrase "ali mari" from where
it is not long until ali molii, the most common expression. It is possible that
Joile Mari was, in the local spiritual universe, some mythical characters.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">In the past, recipes for 64
croissants (walnut croissants) were not missing from weddings in Tinutul
Padurenilor or from preparations for the holidays. Weddings were <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>prepared a long time ago and all the food
served on the first night and the second wedding night were prepared from
products produced in the household of the bride and groom and their relatives.
When it comes to sweets, donuts were a place of honor cooked with household
eggs and a lot of love.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">Below we present the recipe for
croissants 64.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">500 g of flour</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">400-450 g butter</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">3-4 eggs</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">Shaved flour rind (optional)</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">Preparation:</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">Separate the egg yolks from the
egg whites then 300g melted butter and cooled to room temperature together with
flour, sour cream and a pinch of salt make a dough. Here we add grated lemon
peel if we choose to add grated lemon. Knead to obtain a homogeneous dough that
we divide into 8 equal parts.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">Spread each of the eight parts in
turn to obtain a sheet that we grease with melted butter (the remaining one)
and cooled then roll it and put it in the cold.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">Composition inside the
croissants: 3 beaten egg whites with 200g sugar and ground walnuts (250 g
walnuts)</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">After it has cooled, divide each
roll rolled forward into 8 equal parts, which we spread in a square shape and
fill each one with a teaspoon of the composition prepared above.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">Place the croissants in the pan
and put them in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes without browning them,
the croissants should remain white-yellow. When we take them out, we give them sugar
powder as hot as they are to stick the sugar to them.</p>

all over the country!" You know what this is all about? All Romanian know
their childhood song about the beginning of the spring. We all sang this song
in our childhood. Well, with the coming of spring, in Padurenime, in the past,
but also today, in some parts of the land there were certain customs sacredly
preserved from ancestral estates. Let's find out what it's about.</p><p class="MsoNormal">As we well know, foresters are thrifty people. In the past,
agriculture was their main occupation. It is a popular saying "it is good
to make your cart in winter and your sledge in summer". What does this old
saying actually mean?</p><p class="MsoNormal">The foresters, hardworking people, did not stay quiet even
in the winter. They made sure that in the cold winter months, little by little,
they repaired their tools and also their animals - especially horses, to be
ready for a full new agricultural year. They did most of the things on the perimeter
of their house, but some things required help from the craftsmen. Even though
the villages in Tinutul Padurenilor are small, in the past they had a trade
with craftsman in each field.</p><p class="MsoNormal">Usually, in Padurenime, winter lasts between 4 and 5 months.
The foresters were eagerly waiting for the field work to begin. It is said from
the elders that the first day of plowing was to be Monday or Thursday. Also
these days, with luck in the mentality of the locals, it was good for young men
to go to the girls they liked asking them for marriage. In the morning of that
day, several rituals were performed around the household, both magical and
religious. Let's not dwell so much on stories and find out what it's all about
this day.</p><p class="MsoNormal">The farmer mixed in a jar of crushed coal (wood), fat and
larch, obtaining a black paste with which the cattle were to be taken out for
plowing, making a cross on the forehead. In Runcu Mare, before being
slaughtered, the oxen were rubbed, after the head, with frog eggs, so as not to
make holes in the yoke. A tassel of red wool and a bouquet of flowers were
placed in the nail of the yoke so that the oxen would not be cursed. It is an
impressive mix of customs based on practical experience, magic and religious
faith.</p><p class="MsoNormal">The man was preparing the cart in front of the house, where
he put the plow, the wheels, the harrow, the sacks with seeds, the bundle of
hay (animal feed), a loaf of bread and a bowl of salt. After the oxen were
prepared, the housewife also played an important role. She brought from the
house a shovel with embers, on which she sprinkled the grass of the wind, the
bridles, the grass of the filth, all harvested on the Friday of Sântoader, to
which she added incense. She said, "Our Father"- The Lord's Prayer-
while the man stood before the oxen with their heads uncovered. Then she
circled the chariot and the oxen three times, holding the shovel with the
embers smoking. At the end of the ritual, the man took an uncooked egg, went
with it to the back of the cart from where he threw it over the cart to the
yoke of the oxen. If the egg hit the yoke it was an auspicious sign, the year
will be fruitful. The woman returned with a bowl of water from which she threw
on the oxen and the plow. All these gestures were made in order to ensure the
fertility of the sign and to protect the harvest, the cattle and the man from
all the evils that could have beenfall them.</p><p class="MsoNormal">Only after this complex preparation did he go to the field,
to the meadow that was to be shown, where the plowman performed two other rituals:
he placed the sacks of seeds in the meadow, putting on them a large lump of
earth, like the wheat that will be obtained at harvest be as heavy as the
earth. After pulling the first furrow, the plowman put a boiled egg under it at
one end, "so that the new wheat would come out clean as an egg."</p><p class="MsoNormal">The optimal sowing period for wheat was late March-early
April. The oats were sown in March and the corn after Sângeorz, when the oak
leaves. Some farmers, especially those in the northern part of the land, used
to cultivate a few meadows with an eagle (a crop sown with wheat mixed with
rye). Surprisingly good harvests were often obtained by using this process. In
this composition, the crops were no longer knocked to the ground by heavy rains
and winds.</p><p class="MsoNormal">In places where it was not possible to enter with the cart,
due to the rugged terrain or the large slope, the farmer did not leave home to
the barn with the cart, performing the whole purification ritual around the
cobs on which were placed the plow, harrow, seeds and traction animals. After
plowing, all the utensils were brought home on the cobs.</p><p class="MsoNormal">What can we understand from these habits? As a general
conclusion, the foresters were thrifty people, with the fear of God, but also
very superstitious. They followed all the procedures known to their ancestors
in order to be successful in agriculture for a whole year. Even though times
have changed, and voluntary work has somehow been replaced by certain machines,
with the help of technology, the people of the Forest Land still retain certain
traditions and customs in some places. May God help us this year to have good
harvests, and may the weather be with us!</p></blockquote></blockquote><p><br /></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8rGwASfFSgoBwI8d9KMwaO_gCHAwnmR8VL5qJCrf8HbQUjZ6ufXElCETVBz3fqP5fTrQ7VG55_uxSaUIENdflOnbUfqMJT1Bbk09N2iOWtzLUeSA2T_W-yjOBA0_ydwyWmQe19G2nddSB/s2048/FB_IMG_1618177890635.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8rGwASfFSgoBwI8d9KMwaO_gCHAwnmR8VL5qJCrf8HbQUjZ6ufXElCETVBz3fqP5fTrQ7VG55_uxSaUIENdflOnbUfqMJT1Bbk09N2iOWtzLUeSA2T_W-yjOBA0_ydwyWmQe19G2nddSB/s320/FB_IMG_1618177890635.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQtXxA15gLyIlQ1HGrB-rKnsOQMy-Kb38rBBQLFLgU9KBBV9Grh-xOnXGa1kpFFa1iGnH1J9MfXfLM9e-PkTTSH3fsJOBFUx3QcX-gS8bOgFalPf6u2_HHfOyvJQSCJQjydy7_QMhycLWy/s2048/FB_IMG_1618177909445.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQtXxA15gLyIlQ1HGrB-rKnsOQMy-Kb38rBBQLFLgU9KBBV9Grh-xOnXGa1kpFFa1iGnH1J9MfXfLM9e-PkTTSH3fsJOBFUx3QcX-gS8bOgFalPf6u2_HHfOyvJQSCJQjydy7_QMhycLWy/s320/FB_IMG_1618177909445.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFZapF9upiowZ1YfVcvrmpZL-RUnMS8tDQw6I9c6KqK5OquOh3P5MnUKtH4FGFYNrt4eY_mWFJhvmnrtqzyXI3auHRnxYLCwUd7d0JZWXK6lGPzr6cI1vCZ2GRgPDayLoK_pL_GgEVSYnZ/s960/received_1172645706505167.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="960" data-original-width="720" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFZapF9upiowZ1YfVcvrmpZL-RUnMS8tDQw6I9c6KqK5OquOh3P5MnUKtH4FGFYNrt4eY_mWFJhvmnrtqzyXI3auHRnxYLCwUd7d0JZWXK6lGPzr6cI1vCZ2GRgPDayLoK_pL_GgEVSYnZ/s320/received_1172645706505167.jpeg" /></a></div><br /> <p></p><blockquote style="border: none; margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px; text-align: left;"><blockquote style="border: none; margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px; text-align: left;"><p style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 12pt; margin-top: 12pt;">

This Romanian fairytale castle would make Dracula jealous. This is a well-known fortress, which has a lot of history behind and interesting legends. It was mentioned before Dracula. Do you know which is the connection between the castle and the Count? Have we aroused your interest about this wonderful construction? If your answer is yes, then stay with us to find its beautiful story. </p><p style="text-align: justify;">Corvin Castle is a Gothic-Renaissance castle in Hunedoara, Romania. It is one of the largest castles in Europe. It figures in lists of the Seven Wonders of Romania and it reached top 10 "fairytale" castles in Europe. This is situated in the heart of Transylvania and it looks like it sits on top of a rocky bluff with nothing underneath, only a bridge which was seen as being the only way to have access inside of the fortress. Anyone said History hour? Quick, let's find out historical facts. </p><p style="text-align: justify;">Corvin Castle was laid out in 1446, when construction began on the orders of Voivode of Transylvania Iancu de Hunedoara. Built in a Renaissance-Gothic style and constructed over the site of an older fortification on a rock above the smaller Zlaști River, the castle is a large and imposing structure with tall towers, bastions, an inner courtyard, diversely coloured roofs, and myriad windows and balconies adorned with stone carvings. The castle also features a double wall for enhanced fortification and is flanked by both rectangular and circular towers, an architectural innovation for the period's Transylvanian architecture. Some of the towers (the Capistrano Tower, the Deserted Tower and the Drummers' Tower) were used as prisons. The Buzdugan Tower (a type of mace after which it was named) was solely built for defensive purposes and it had its exterior decorated with geometric motifs. The rectangular shaped towers have large openings to accommodate larger weapons.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">The castle has three large areas: the Knight's Hall, the Diet Hall and the circular stairway. The halls are rectangular in shape and are decorated with marble. The Diet Hall was used for ceremonies or formal receptions whilst the Knight's Hall was used for feasts. In 1456, John Hunyadi died and work on the castle stagnated. Starting with 1458, new commissions were being undergone to construct the Matia Wing of the castle. In 1480, work was completely stopped on the castle and it was recognised as being one of the biggest and most impressive buildings in Eastern Europe.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">The 16th century did not bring any improvements to the castle, but during the 17th century new additions were made, for aesthetic and military purposes. Aesthetically, the new Large Palace was built facing the town. A two level building, hosting chambers and a large living area. For military purposes, two new towers were constructed: the White Tower and the Artillery Tower. Also, the external yard was added, used for administration and storage.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">The current castle is the result of a fanciful restoration campaign undertaken after a disastrous fire and many decades of total neglect. It has been noted that modern "architects projected to it their own wistful interpretations of how a great Gothic castle should look.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">As one of the most important properties of John Hunyadi, the castle was transformed during his reign. It became a sumptuous home, not only a strategically enforced point. With the passing of the years, the masters of the castle had modified its look, adding towers, halls and guest rooms. The gallery and the keep - the last defense tower (called "Neboisa" which means "Don't be afraid" in Serbo-Croatian language), which remained unchanged from John Hunyadi's time, and the Capistrano Tower (named after the saint, Franciscan friar from the Battle of Belgrade in 1456) are some of the most significant parts of the construction. Other significant parts of the building are the Knights' Hall (a great reception hall), the Club Tower, the White bastion, which served as a food storage room, and the Diet Hall, on whose walls medallions are painted (among them there are the portraits of Matei Basarab, ruler from Wallachia, and Vasile Lupu, ruler of Moldavia). In the wing of the castle called the Mantle, a painting can be seen which portrays the legend of the raven from which the name of the descendants of John Hunyadi, Corvinus came.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">There are some interesting legends around this wonderful castle. The coat of arms of the Corvin family is a raven with a golden ring in its beak, and this family symbol has a legend. It is said that John Hunyadi was the illegitimate son of King Sigismund of Luxemburg and Hungary, and his mother was Elisabeta, a very beautiful woman from the Hateg region. In order not to dishonor her, the king married Elisabeta to one of his knights, Voicu. Sigismund also gave her a ring, as a gift for the unborn child, which will help him be recognized when he will go to the royal court. The legend says that during a trip, the family halted for lunch, but when they were not paying attention, a raven stole the ring, attracted by its shine. That's when John Hunyadi took a bow and shot the raven in order to get the ring back. When he heard the tale, the King was deeply impressed, so he decided that the family's symbol will be a raven with a golden ring in its beak. Moreover, the name of the Corvin family comes from the Latin word "Corvus", which means "Raven".</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Tourists are told that it was the place where Vlad the Impaler, Prince of Wallachia, was held prisoner by John Hunyadi, Hungary's military leader and regent during the King's minority. Later, Vlad III entered a political alliance with John Hunyadi, although the latter was responsible for the execution of his father, Vlad II Dracul. Because of these links, the Hunedoara Castle is sometimes mentioned as a source of inspiration for Castle Dracula in Bram Stoker's 1897 horror novel Dracula. In fact, Stoker neither knew about Vlad's alliance with Hunyadi, nor about Hunyadi's castle. </p><p style="text-align: justify;">In the castle yard, near the 15th-century chapel, there is a well 30 meters deep. According to the legend, this fountain was dug by 3 Turkish prisoners to whom liberty was promised if they reached water. After 15 years they completed the well, but their captors did not keep their promise. It is said that the inscription on a wall of the well means "you have water, but not soul". </p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: justify;">Well, today's story about the magnificent Corvin Castle came to an end. What are the conclusions about it? This is one of the most appreciated castles from Romania with a lot of history and is notable in Europe. Corvin Castle's doors are widely open for all the tourists from the entire Planet. Everyone would be amazed by its history and legends. Well, like any good thing, it takes a little sacrifice and a desire to be fulfilled. Not far from Corvinilor Castle, 20 km from Hunedoara, in Ghelari, protected from the madness of the city, located as close as possible to the vault of the sky, rises, tall, empty, a church-cathedral, the Padurenilor Cathedral (Chatedral of the Foresters). A monumental construction that can compete with any place of worship in the major cities of the country, even from Europe, built in communism (between 1939 and 1973), when many churches suffered the torture of demolition or relocation.</div><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;">Arriving at the gates of Heaven, on the Hunedoara-Teliuc-Ghelari road, you have to go under the clock arch that adorns the big gate. Also at the entrance you will notice two saints in folk costumes from the area. The dimensions of the cathedral are remarkable: 47 m high, 21 m wide and 47 m long, to which are added the symbolism of the 7 towers, 7 years the duration of the interior painting by the painter Constantin Nițulescu.</p><p style="text-align: justify;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQVxh8TceNpSXhJRcWH0uhyphenhyphenmaRPto1UgJxummG3nZ8OPt3iPMRUyOrMYd5TtYODryMJKN0DfrwrQN-LSoHIhcKVQz1HHNBEKWEKLja5Q5j5Px6maBkbEWjTPk7QN0qIcLT1Syj106iimJf/s1600/bisericaiarna.jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: justify;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1466" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQVxh8TceNpSXhJRcWH0uhyphenhyphenmaRPto1UgJxummG3nZ8OPt3iPMRUyOrMYd5TtYODryMJKN0DfrwrQN-LSoHIhcKVQz1HHNBEKWEKLja5Q5j5Px6maBkbEWjTPk7QN0qIcLT1Syj106iimJf/s320/bisericaiarna.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;">It is good to know that the founder of this spiritual space, the priest Nerva Florea, carried out a vision about which he said: "This is how I received a command from God!". It had happened to him many years before, in 1927, when he was a theological student in Sibiu, when he had a revelation and a mysterious voice he said to him: "Where you go and decide to settle, build a great church". In 1939, the new priest of Ghelar, given the growing number of villagers, began construction of a large and monumental church. After that, Father Nerva dreamed of the whole construction down to the smallest architectural details. Arriving in Ghelar, he implements his "divine command", in September 1939 starting the construction of what He called after his vision "a great church". Priest Nerva Florea was the one who carried out the project, supervised the construction of the church, everything being done according to divine revelation. This explains the fact that he was the only "engineer" of the construction site. The church was built on the place called "Deal" in the center of the village next to the old stone church. It took 100 kg. of dynamite to level the construction site, this being the edge of a stone hill. In September 1939, the foundation stone of the church was laid, digging the foundation.</div><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;">He found a lot of support in the people of Ghelari, peasants hardened by the harshness of the place but with pure soul. Out of need of money, a mixed choir was organized in the village, which together with the Ghelari fanfare (founded at the end of the 19th century) toured the country. If you remember dear readers, we talked about this choir some time ago. The "Work and Light" choir, which this year celebrated its 80th anniversary. These people with a big heart and eager to build together with their priest the great cathedral travelled all over the country, to large enterprises in all cities of the country to raise funds for the monumental construction.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">During 1945-1955 the works at the church stopped due to the communist persecution to which the priest Nerva also fell prey. He was arrested and the authorities were unable to handcuff him. They just didn't close. Was it a miracle from God for the priest's toil and the fulfillment of the commandment? Many agree with this approach to the subject. After no charges were found, Priest Nerva was released from prison. The works were resumed in 1955, the church being completed in 1973 when, on November 3, it was sanctified.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNPREuQClC91_9T31BFbwACoEchcjyD_1xgx3YuxzrzpVUmBogsoIB3EoLEakfia0abmhVeybJWEiQe5tTnv4dkiL0gqt7MyBYmAjKrZb5eiEPSyjjiBE6VgbAB7Sy9S8oAFI2seACWVYB/s1600/poartabiserica.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1228" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNPREuQClC91_9T31BFbwACoEchcjyD_1xgx3YuxzrzpVUmBogsoIB3EoLEakfia0abmhVeybJWEiQe5tTnv4dkiL0gqt7MyBYmAjKrZb5eiEPSyjjiBE6VgbAB7Sy9S8oAFI2seACWVYB/w308-h400/poartabiserica.jpg" width="308" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;">The construction is made of brick with walls over 1 m thick, the construction style being that of "heavenly cross". The architecture combines several styles, the specialists not being able to pronounce. It has its own style. The church has seven towers, two in front with a height of 47 m, the most imposing being the one in the middle of the church-dome. The sacrifices of the locals for the construction of the church were many. The materials were brought by train to the base of the hill on which Ghelar is located, and from there by ox cart. Sometimes they were drawn with an inclined plan, they were transported again by train through the mine galleries, then by a funicular (specially built) near the church, then by cart to the construction site, because the only way to communicate with the city of Hunedoara (located 18 km) was the one mentioned. Later, a road was built connecting Ghelar to Hunedoara (1958).</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Earlier we talked about the painting made in this church. The painting in the "buon fresco" style was made on about 4000 square meters. Each painted saint 'orients himself' according to the person looking at him. The iconostasis is polished in gold, as are the icons. The main painter of the church was Constantin Nițulescu. The painting of the church lasted seven years (1960-1967), despite the fact that five painters worked on it. The sculpture is made of solid oak, being made entirely by the artist Ioan Cristea.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Starting with 1980, the church began to feel the movements of the field. Long cracks appeared on the walls of the church. The only solution to stop the effects of the movements was consolidation, a project that was started immediately. With the death of the priest Florea, many of the plans for the arrangement of the church were extinguished. His vision was to clothe the church in mosaic painting, to be surrounded by seven artesian wells, and to be sumptuously paved with white marble.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">In 2004, following the steps taken by the parish priest Vlad Vasile and other officials, the church entered the governmental restoration program and over 20 billion old lei were invested. The restoration causes the entire resistance structure to be strengthened, with deep concrete injections being made throughout the hill on which the church is built. After the restoration, the church is painted on the outside and cherubs are painted on the walls of the towers. Thus, the church looks the same as in Father Florea's dreams. The stairs at the entrance to the church and the entire church, at the base, are paved with marble, and the icon on the dome at the entrance to the church is made of mosaic.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">On July 4, 2010, the Pădurenilor Cathedral was reconsecrated, where several dozen priests and sons of the village took part, headed by the Most Holy Bishop of the Diocese of Deva and Hunedoara, Bishop Gurie. At the same time, in the perimeter of the church there is a museum with the wonders of the place: traditional costumes, old books, objects from the foresters' garden and objects of church worship.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Until the 90's, old women wore the traditional foresters costume, a model of high national consciousness, the ancestral dowry bearers, who ennobled the services by presence, came to the church . The value of the place and its significance can also be described due to the large number of sons of the village / church. They later became theologians and good people, fearing God, being spread through various parishes throughout the county, and beyond.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">The sunsets, during the summer nights, are spectacular, trying to caress, protective, the cathedral. The interior is immersed in a warm, unreal light. It is good to know about the existence of such a place, only 28 km from the Prislop Monastery, which you must discover in your travels to places that carry this level of spirituality. The feelings you can have there and the peace with which the soul is charged, are indescribable. The Cathedral of the Foresters is waiting for you all to step on its doorstep! God help us!</p><div style="text-align: justify;"><div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Lora, serif; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;">English version by <b><a href="https://www.facebook.com/norana.adina" style="color: #be7d7c; max-width: calc(800px); outline: 0px; text-decoration-line: none; transition: all 0.2s ease 0s;" target="_blank"><span style="color: #b45f06;">Norana Adina</span></a></b></div><p class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; color: #222222; font-family: Lora, serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: normal; margin: 0px 0px 0cm; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;"><b><span style="color: #783f04;">Ținutul Pădurenilor - România</span></b></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; color: #222222; font-family: Lora, serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: normal; margin: 0px 0px 0cm; padding: 0px; text-align: justify;"><b><span style="color: #783f04;">Photo: Horatiu Toma</span></b></p></div>THAhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10890625386173373684noreply@blogger.com0Strada Rusca, nr 62 Ghelari, Ghelari 337240, Romania45.7133183 22.791393617.403084463821152 -12.3648564 74.023552136178836 57.9476436tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4619729398672178699.post-78804183952205334032021-03-24T23:57:00.001-07:002021-03-24T23:58:14.937-07:00Blagoveștenia - customs in Ținutul Pădurenilor in the date of Annunciation<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKIsezdM7xfqtGXQKvEvFLpnZm8-CNpAXo099uXXYqZcQH7opfhOJC423X_0cuq2QNqp2azFywve9JKYSMuisz3Nd08_qLRsGluM4bj6WsqPbP84-SzT1BRa72ZrSrZJTVr1TpVAIZVtg/s219/Annunciation.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="219" data-original-width="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKIsezdM7xfqtGXQKvEvFLpnZm8-CNpAXo099uXXYqZcQH7opfhOJC423X_0cuq2QNqp2azFywve9JKYSMuisz3Nd08_qLRsGluM4bj6WsqPbP84-SzT1BRa72ZrSrZJTVr1TpVAIZVtg/s0/Annunciation.jpg" /></a></div><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: justify;">In the date of 25th March in Ținutul Pădurenilor we celebrate the tradition Blagovestenia</p><p style="text-align: justify;">A custom with a fixed date (March 25), Blagoveştenia retains the Slavonic name of the Annunciation. The symbol of this day was the bubbling (whirlwind), the fire and smoke resulting from the burning in piles of various kinds of garbage in the household. Two or three days before the holiday, the households collected straw remnants, leaves, thoriums, cradles left over from the leaves, after feeding the sheep, bean stalks, etc. which they set on fire before daybreak. Now it was clear which woman got up earlier in the morning. It was more smoke than fire. The children looked forward to seeing the flames in the yard play on the ceiling of the house when they were looking, and then, flying out, they began to jump over the piles burning and smoking, either for their own pleasure or at the urging of their parents, "to don't bite his snakes. " We notice that after the snake removal ritual, from the previous feast, of the snakes, we are now witnessing another one, for the prevention of snake bites.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">The first in the family to wake up went out into the yard and set fire to the piles prepared in the evening. The whole village was covered in smoke. In some localities (Goleş, Mladini, Vălari) cattle were also driven through the smoke, both cows and sheep, so as not to be bitten by snakes during the summer. </p><p style="text-align: justify;">At the same time, people were aware that the smoke destroyed the eggs of caterpillars nesting in the bark of trees. Lent lasts forty days, to which is added the Holy Week. The main reason for fasting during Lent, in the old times, was to prepare the catechumens who were to be baptized for Easter and to enter the church. However, Lent has become absolutely a period of spiritual preparation for all Christians to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 12pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Following the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea in 325, the Church of the East established that the duration of the fast should be seven weeks, a period that has remained valid to this day. In Lent, Christians must show increased spiritual care by giving up food of animal origin. Moreover, they must exalt themselves by prayer along with good deeds. In the Byzantine calendar, Lent begins on the Monday after the expulsion of Adam from heaven, and the Latin one with Ash Wednesday. As is well known, fasting is the total retention from certain foods and beverages for religious and moral purposes. Moreover, Christians must refrain from certain unclean thoughts, lusts, passions, or evil actions. This means that physical fasting must be accompanied by spiritual fasting.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 12pt; text-align: justify;"><span id="m_2180113599804965982yMail_cursorElementTracker_1615968572188" style="background-color: transparent; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The Holy Mass is usually having a character of celebration and joy. This is why the Holy Fathers arranged that during this Lent the Holy Liturgy should not be celebrated only on Saturday and Sunday. On other days," the Liturgy of the previously consecrated Gifts" can be celebrated, except for the aliturgical days, when no Holy Mass is celebrated. The liturgy of the "previously sanctified Gifts" came into being due to the desire of some believers to share during the week as well. We remind you that during this Liturgy, the Holy Gifts are consecrated at the Liturgy celebrated on Sunday, they are kept on the Holy Table, and during the week, when the Liturgy of the Gifts is celebrated, they are offered to the belivers for communion. According to the fasting order of the Church, on the days of Lent, it is until sunset, and the communion is done in the evening after Vespers.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 12pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">But who knows which are the traditions from Tinutul Padurenilor when the fasting period starts? As we discovered few interesting historical and religious facts about the Lent, let's see what the foresters do, preparing for this period. In the old times, the forester's families were a lot more religious than they are now. It was a whole process before the start of the lent. There are even nowadays 3weeks before it starts, when people are getting ready for it, slowly starting each week to give up food of animal origin and the second week's dairy products. One of the traditions is talking about females from the house washing all the pans and pots before fasting began, putting them in the attic. This was because it was understandable that the whole family would fast and they had to get rid of the smell and taste of all the food of animal products and dairy.</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAd6Iws-0oppt9J8Q6edLMJGZlxdYXEY_bu1hQ4Pv6pMIlayvMXn_VvnUH667VzIuFp22D6U9WtL5I0PUj-W5dGxOkFIKaGW15IDvGZKGz0g1D79RWw3ATpBz9UCBjt2TGByPQ7YpDdEE/s715/2021+03+15.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="715" data-original-width="689" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAd6Iws-0oppt9J8Q6edLMJGZlxdYXEY_bu1hQ4Pv6pMIlayvMXn_VvnUH667VzIuFp22D6U9WtL5I0PUj-W5dGxOkFIKaGW15IDvGZKGz0g1D79RWw3ATpBz9UCBjt2TGByPQ7YpDdEE/s320/2021+03+15.png" /></a></span></div><span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /></span><p></p><p dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 12pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">On this day, which coincides with the Leaving of the Easter Lent, a ritual was practiced which aimed to ensure the integrity of crops from the attack of birds and rodents. For dinner that day, the females prepared a rich meal. There was no lack of soup, cabbage, cheese, pies and, of course, bread. The oldest woman in the house cut as large a slice of bread as she could, putting a little of each dish served at dinner, then, with her eyes closed, went out into the darkness outside and groped along the wall of the house to the window or up to a shelf. Here, he put the slice of bread with everything on it, after which he addressed the various savages who could have destroyed the family's sowings (see the subchapter Sacrifice of the first wood chosen for the new house in this chapter). After this practice of improving living things, the woman returned to the house with her eyes closed, an act of magic by analogy. The belief was that just as she does not see the way from the house to the window and back, neither the birds nor the rodents will see her herd with seeds. The bird chirping ritual is a proof of the antiquity of practicing agriculture by foresters.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 12pt; text-align: justify;"><span id="m_2180113599804965982yMail_cursorElementTracker_1615967904181" style="background-color: transparent; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Thank you once again for your interest in Tinutul Padurenilor! In the popular calendar, March 9 is also Martyrs 'Day or Martyrs' Day, the Christian holiday overlapping the beginning of the Agrarian Year, celebrated on the border between winter and summer, leaving behind the cold days of Dochia and making room for the warm days of "Mosi". In the popular belief, this day ends the days of Baba Dochia, who symbolizes the old year, her death, on March 9, marking the boundary between the cold and the warm season. Thus, the customs practiced on the occasion of this holiday also include elements specific to the New Year's ritual.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">In all the ethnographic areas of Romania, the tradition is kept to prepare specific bakes from March 9, which are called Saints, and, most often, Martyrs, in memory of the 40 martyrs from Sevaste. Also, according to popular tradition, another custom is to consume 40 or 44 glasses of wine. It is said that on the Day of the Martyrs the tombs and gates of Heaven are opened, so that the souls of the dead may return among the living, who are expected with chairs and tables spread at the fires of the Martyrs. In order to mark the beginning of the new agricultural year, on this day the plow was plowed in a festive way, a moment that also opened the cycle of spring holidays.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The last of the "Old Ladies Days" coincides with another tradition called, locally, in Ținutul Pădurenilor, "Sâmţii". Here, in the old times, this holiday's purpose was to defend the household against venomous snakes, which might have nested near the house. The ritual consisted of gathering rags in the yard where embers were placed over them to smoke. The smoking debris was shovelled around the house, the stable, the pantry, the kitchen, the shed, and all the walls so that the snakes in the field would not come near the house. The holiday has other meanings. Children are given to eat honey; the jar of honey is placed on the hearth of the house, and the children sit around it while they eat honey. In the same way, the bees have to settle in the summer, when they are swarming.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The ritual of expelling snakes did not take into account the house snake, which enjoyed a special status, being protected and even fed by the housewife.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">On the "Sâmții" day, women made 40 "pupi" (pastries) of unleavened husk, as many holy martyrs were honored on this day, "so that none of them would be upset if they were left without a "pup". On this day, we encounter practices of pre-Christian and Christian origin, somehow detached from each other, the share being held first, proof that the Christian feast of the 40 holy martyrs was assimilated in a late period.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Thank you of your interest in finding new information and traditions about our wonderful land, Ținutul Pădurenilor, and also about our beautiful country of Romania. </div></div><div><br /></div><div><div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Lora, serif; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-align: right;">English version by <b><a href="https://www.facebook.com/norana.adina" style="color: #be7d7c; max-width: calc(800px); outline: 0px; text-decoration-line: none; transition: all 0.2s ease 0s;" target="_blank"><span style="color: #b45f06;">Norana Adina</span></a></b></div><p class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; color: #222222; font-family: Lora, serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: normal; margin: 0px 0px 0cm; padding: 0px; text-align: right;"><b><span style="color: #783f04;">Ținutul Pădurenilor - România</span></b></p></div>THAhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10890625386173373684noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4619729398672178699.post-84366726442436687772021-03-03T13:49:00.006-08:002021-03-03T14:00:35.102-08:00"Babele 1st - 9th of March" How is your day?<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQnIRh85g8kQpSUfHXU3Ad9k91siWIcxPOzcSFaQgMvMUli9iWlFmTBfelj2ICiQxwKrw2IW4IA5TcTDfJ2kIGeyvfl8BtOnWzpdYtUlNadb9CtTx2IOok81Y28ml5fNpnyj0IlohqlVc/s1280/2021+03+04+babele+old+ladaies.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="720" data-original-width="1280" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQnIRh85g8kQpSUfHXU3Ad9k91siWIcxPOzcSFaQgMvMUli9iWlFmTBfelj2ICiQxwKrw2IW4IA5TcTDfJ2kIGeyvfl8BtOnWzpdYtUlNadb9CtTx2IOok81Y28ml5fNpnyj0IlohqlVc/w640-h360/2021+03+04+babele+old+ladaies.png" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: right;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: xx-small;"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"><a href="https://www.tinutulpadurenilor.eu/2021/02/zilele-babei-si-legenda-babei-dochia.html" rel="nofollow">(citește în română)</a></span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; white-space: pre-wrap;">As we present in the previous article, begining of March has more Romanian traditions and we try to share them with you on Tinutul Padurenilor website.</span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; white-space: pre-wrap;">Another important tradition of Romanian people at the beginning of spring is called "babele"- Old ladies. This celebration takes place from 1st of March until 9th of March, a period of time when girls and females choose a day to be their "baba", old lady. If the day will be nice and sunny, you will be good all year long. If the day is cold, the year will not be so good for you. Ethnographers say that the old lady myth is one of the most important in the Romanian tradition. </span></div><p></p><span id="docs-internal-guid-7088ccdd-7fff-1b7f-8f5e-33995c7a9bfc"><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 12pt; margin-top: 12pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">But let's see which is the legend behind this tradition. The legend is about an old and ugly lady, named Dochia, who had a son named Dragobete. His destiny was to fall in love with a beautiful girl. His mother, not liking that girl, had sent her to wash a bundle of black wool in the river until it turned white. Of course, it had been impossible, even more being winter and very cold, her fingers got frozen. Then St. Peter appeared and gave her a red flower, which had as purpose to miraculously make the wool white. It was a miracle from God for the girl's pure soul. When she went home, Dochia decided to go to the mountain with her flock of sheeps. The days were warmer and the old lady, having 9 sheepskin coats she decided to get rid of them. Getting close to the mountain peak, the weather got very cold and snow. At the peak of the mountain Baba Dochia remained frozen there as a stone, even nowadays people can see her statue in the Ceahlau Mountains.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 12pt; margin-top: 12pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Let's hope that our "baba" will be nice and sunny. Hopefully, the following months will be full of joy, health and happiness. To all our female readers we hope you'll have an amazing spring, full of beautiful and nice things.</span></p><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Lora, serif; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-align: right; white-space: normal;">English version by <b><a href="https://www.facebook.com/norana.adina" style="color: #be7d7c; max-width: calc(800px); outline: 0px; text-decoration-line: none; transition: all 0.2s ease 0s;" target="_blank"><span style="color: #b45f06;">Norana Adina</span></a></b></div><p class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; color: #222222; font-family: Lora, serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: normal; margin: 0px 0px 0cm; padding: 0px; text-align: right; white-space: normal;"><b><span style="color: #783f04;">Ținutul Pădurenilor - România</span></b></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; color: #222222; font-family: Lora, serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: normal; margin: 0px 0px 0cm; padding: 0px; text-align: right; white-space: normal;"><b><span style="color: #783f04;">Photo: Horatiu Toma</span></b></p></span></div></span>THAhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10890625386173373684noreply@blogger.com0
